Rich in culture and bustling activities taking place near the river. However, the biggest downside is the ease of topping up the transport card. Even though the metro and bus systems are well developed and integrated, and easy to use, it is not as straightforward when topping up the transport card. Foreign visitors will find it challenging to figure out how to determine how much value needs to be added to the transport card to complete the desired trips.

Don't use the hop-on-hop off bus tours.
Don't use the hop-on-hop off bus tours. Complete waste of time. Rent bikes instead and start biking. Porto is not suitable for people in wheelchairs or can't walk extensively. Enough to see and do, plenty places to eat. Beaches close by. Lovely city trip.

The weather was great, Porto was interesting, glad I went.
The weather was great, Porto was interesting, glad I went. Pavia Walkways was the best excursion we did. Otherwise, the restaurants and food were not as good as I expected and there's an awful lot of building and construction going on in the City and it will be much nicer when all of that work is finished. I enjoyed visiting Lisbon more.

Loved the city, although be prepared for a lot of steep climbs. An e-bike tour is the perfect way to start your trip as you see the main sites in one 3 hour ride and can decide on what to revisit. Food is varied and there are an abundance of cafes and restaurants and it's so easy for an English speaker. There are the Porto must-dos of a tram ride to Foz, a port tasting tour and a visit to Livrarian Lello, an inspiration for part of Hogwarts. Everyone I encountered was extremely friendly

A lovely lively city.
A lovely lively city.
Loved the riverside quay with its many eateries ; the walk on the bridge at both levels ; the San Bento railway station, the ornate bookshop (Livraria Lello); river cruise (take one where they share the history), some lovely churches , wine tours are a must ...walk around the city... Ubers are relatively low cost so you can hop in and out easily if you don't want to walk.
I loved my room! It was like walking into a little oasis. I enjoyed the relaxing area with the sofa and TV with Netflix, the free mini-bar, and the great shutters on the windows that made my room quiet and dark for sleeping and all the special touches that made it like a little apartment away from home. It was all so much more than I expected and will make it my destination whenever I return to Porto. The staff also was super friendly and accommodating. Thank you for making my last days in Portugal and the Camino Portuguese so relaxing!
From the moment you arrive you are met with friendly and welcoming staff. Taking care of the car, a tour of the hotel and gorgeous rooms. The breakfast was exceptional! The shampoo, soap and everything else used in the rooms smell so good and are of a high quality.
The view is gorgeous and it is peaceful. It almost makes you forget that you are in a city for a moment.
The reception go out of their way to assist and they do make you fé welcome. Overall from all the hotels we stayed in in Portugal, this was by far the best!
Amazing location and absolutely adorable apartment. It was a fantastic way to start our 2 weeks in Portugal with us all together instead of in separate hotel rooms. It was super clean, great decor, good sheets, well-equipped and an awesome view. This apartment is smack in the middle of the old part of the city: walkable to shopping restaurants, bridges to Gaia and the staff recommended parking is excellent but pricey. However, once your car is there, leave it and Uber!!
What a place to stay in!
It's probably the best hotel I have stayed in Portugal, if we take into account the cost-benefit ratio.
Every aspect in this hotel was excellent: the employees service and courtesy, the state of the art rooms, the wifi reception (the best I have experienced for years), the rich and varied breakfast, and its main location in the city.
I will certainly recommend this lovely hotel for all of my acquaintances. 10/10
One of the best hotels we’ve stayed in while in Portugal!
A really well executed new hotel with beautiful details. The staff are all so welcoming, none more so than the bar and restaurant staff who seem to live and breath the hotel and its quirky ethos. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Porto. We didn’t have the breakfast but did have dinner and cocktails and both were amazing.
The staff was very nice and ready to help. We enjoyed very much our stay in this hotel - very clean. It's the best stay we have had ever in Portugal. Near the hotel, we found the best places for the famous Francesinha /Cafe Santiago/ and cachorrinho /Gazela Cachorrinhos/ - you should be prepared to wait in line to get in there. Cafe Magestic is also nearby.
This hotel is a gem! The entire staff was helpful, kind, accommodating and fun. The hotel is beautiful and welcoming. Our room was tastefully appointed with a sitting area and a view of the park. The beds were heavenly. Breakfast was a buffet with everything you need and they will prepare something if it's not. My favorite hotel of my Portugal vacation!
Portugal is a city that is rebuilding itself. This small hotel located in the hustle and bustle of the city allows you to experience the city both day and night. It infects you with the energy of the locals and adds a surreal touch to your trip and selfies. If you visit, when you go out at night, you can visit a small jazz club a few blocks away
Truly had fantastic experience staying at Torel 1884 suites. Room/ location/ food at the restaurant- are simply amazing. One the best experience during our Portugal trip. The management and staff went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. Special thank you to knowledgeable and helpful Augusta on reception. Definitely would stay again.
This was the second time we’ve stayed at this hotel and we love it! The staff are excellent, the rooms are comfortable and clean, the location, for us, is perfect and they have underground parking! we live in Portugal and plan to come to Porto often so I can honestly say, we will never stay anywhere else! Thank you Eurostars Heroismo!
This hotel was the highlight of our 2 week trip to Portugal. There are not enough words to truly express our fabulous experience at this hotel. From the moment of check-in to departure.Perfect in every way. We had a last minute air cancellation back to US and the night receptionists found flights for us, when Viking was unavailable.
Best location, nice staffs, neat room condition, good breakfast
Everything was satisfying 😊 we came to portugal for our honeymoon, and porto was the first city we met in Portugal.
Its such a lovely city and thw teatro hotel was super good. If someone I know has plan to travel Porto, I will definetly recommend here
stayed here with my three year old in a private dorm and it was top tier! met so many different female travelers and everyone was nice! it’s literally within walking distance to everything! you are in the heart of Portugal when staying here! room was so clean and loved my stay!
Great hotel in Porto, so quirky with all of the bumper cars and memorabilia all around the hotel. The reception staff were super friendly and so helpful. Breakfast was really good but the beds weren't the most comfortable during our stay in Portugal.
we loved everything about this property. It was our splurge location on our trip to Portugal, and it was worth every penny. You’re right on the river
and on a square with lots of activities, music, restaurants, etc.
We stayed here on our visit in 2019. We decided to stay again in 2022 now that we have moved to Portugal. We love the hotel. In operation since 1905. The rooms are for sleeping but have all the comforts needed.
The staff was amazing - particularly Luis, Luisa, and Sam. They all went above and beyond to make our stay at Guest House Douro the best of our 2 week vacation in Portugal. And, you cannot beat the location!
